The weather was ideal and the course was fast and ready for another cross country competition. Our jaguars and lady jags didn't disappoint - not only in competition, but in true sportsmanship. PJP extends our utmost pride for the act of kindness shown by sophomore, Evan Halbert, who stopped racing to assist a fellow runner that collapsed during the wooded stretch of the race and showed that helping someone in need surpasses competition. Our hearts are full for what Evan did. Following the race, Evan is shown with Andrew, who was still recuperating from his collapse.
Brooke Becker and Grace Lauricella represented for the lady jags and completed a steady 3K race against 9 other competing schools. First to cross the finish line for the jags (and 34th overall) was junior, Daniel Calamari with a time of 19:01. He was followed close behind by freshman, Adam Merkle with a 19:11 finish.
In order, the Jaguars completing Friday’s meet also included: junior, Matthew Cognevich, sophomores, Brycen Baughman and Henry Dutreix, juniors, Maxwell Skidmore and Raul Martin, sophomore, Matthew Kornrumpf, 8th grader Gabe Cucinella, and Halbert, who was able to complete the race following the incident. Keeping time for the team were managers Adam Roy and Carter Chiasson. We would be remiss to not mention a visit by alum and Cross Country standout, Peyton Chiasson ‘21 who came to cheer on the jags. Chiasson will be competing at the collegiate level this year for the Ragin’ Cajuns at the University of Louisiana Lafayette.
